Spring is finally here! I couldn’t wait for the weather to start warming up so I could get out of my little funk and stop wearing all black lol. This will also be my first official fashion related post on here. The mood board board above is something I put together for fun and showcases some styles I would like to incorporate into my spring outfits this season.
- Coquette
I actually had the bow nail design in December. The ‘Coquette’ aesthetic has been trending for a couple of months and is following into this year. People have literally been adding bows to everything. Hair, clothes, nails, etc. This style also consists of the color baby pink and cozy leg warmers. I was a little afraid of participating in this trend at first because I didn’t want to look like a little girl but there’s something so fun about this style. It’s ok to embrace your inner child and tap into a more girly side of yourself.

- Exotic Wear & Y2K
Exotic Wear as outside clothes has been trending since last summer. Now you can see a lot of the girls going to clubs in pleaser heels and see through lace or mesh outfits. I think there has been a lot of glamorization of the sex work and stripper industry being pushed through female rap music and also women just wanting to feel more sexy and liberated. This change in mindset is also trickling into fashion and the way people dress. I also believe the Y2K trend plays a big part in this as well. There’s a “bimbo” (non offensive) aesthetic happening right now as well that draws from past the Y2K style and even past Paris Hilton outfits. Pieces being highlighted are lace & mesh outfits, pleaser heels, micro mini skirts, & baby tees.

- Office Siren
The ‘Office Siren’ look is a more new aesthetic I’ve been seeing on social media. It originated from the rectangle glasses trend that started a few months ago and has now become its own thing. It sounds a little contradicting but it consist of office clothes styled in a sexy way. Basically a “Sexy Secretary” vibe. Obviously this look couldn’t be worn in a traditional corporate work environment but the idea is super cute and I love the fantasy.

- Plaid Print
I noticed the plaid print pattern really starting to trend during the winter which isn’t a shock because its a seasonal print that is normally popular around that time and fall; but I’ve been starting to notice it trickle into this season as well. I’ve been seeing it worn in a lot of street style outfits. I think it’s pretty cool and I also ended up making a plaid print corset for my final project in my draping class. The piece I made is heavily Vivienne Westwood inspired and also draws nostalgia from my school uniforms growing up.

- Traditional Sewins & Quickweaves
This isn’t exactly fashion related but I’ve been seeing a shift in black women from wearing a lot of wigs and lace fronts to a more natural look. Weaves are a very classic style and I think a lot of women are trying to adopt a “Soft Girl” and “Clean” look. I haven’t had a weave in years but I recently got one done and its been amazing. It’s much easier to maintain and lasts longer compared to a lace front.

This is the end of my April/Spring ’24 personal style inspiration and mood board. The trend forecasting is something people may already be noticing in society, but it’s more so for me to observe and take note of what’s going on currently. I would like to continue creating these personal style and trend forecasting boards each season. This blog will be like a time capsule one day!
